Media reports on Settlement Fund’s future

You may have seen recent news reports suggesting that the YDC Settlement Fund is running out of money, and you’re wondering how that affects your case. Please be reassured that while we’re watching this situation closely, we believe that as of now, you should continue to pursue your claim in the settlement fund.

Over the next few months, as the State’s budget process unfolds, we’ll be working hard to compel the state to live up to the commitments it made in creating the fund. We don’t believe that the legislature will actually break its promise to put more money into the settlement fund.

We have also filed a lawsuit on your behalf, so if the state does break its promise, it’s going to have to face us in court—and that will be more difficult and more expensive for the state in the long run.

If, down the road, we believe there’s a real danger of the settlement fund running out of money, we’ll reach out to you about next steps. For now, we advise you to stay the course, and continue to pursue your settlement fund claim.
